Adult formula estimate; not for pediatric growth assessment.

Your Ideal Weight Range

65.2 - 66.7 kg
Average: 65.9 kg
Above this formula range by: 3.3 kg

Planning Checkpoint

A neutral first checkpoint is 68.0 kg, about 2.0 kg from your current entry toward the nearest edge of the formula range.

Use this as a conversation starter, not a diagnosis. Body composition, waist measurements, medications, symptoms, and health history can matter more than a formula.

When To Use Ideal Weight Calculator

  • Start with measurements, timing, activity, or intake inputs that match your real situation instead of rounded placeholder values.
  • Review whether the estimate fits compare formula ranges with body composition, history, and realistic habit changes before changing a routine or discussing it with a professional.

Sample Input And Output Checks

  • Start with inputs collected consistently, especially measurements, dates, intensity, and unit choices.
  • Review height, sex, frame context, weight trend, training status, and medical guidance before trusting the output.
  • Ideal-weight formulas are broad references; they are not personalized medical targets.

About This Tool

Understanding Ideal Body Weight Calculations

Ideal body weight (IBW) formulas estimate reference weight ranges from height and biological sex. Unlike BMI, which classifies current weight status, IBW formulas provide comparison points derived from population formulas. This calculator implements four common formulas developed between 1964 and 1983, each using different coefficients. Treat the range as planning context, not a personalized health target, because body composition, frame size, muscle mass, age, medication needs, and clinical history can change interpretation.

The Four Scientific IBW Formulas Explained

The Devine formula (1974) was originally developed for drug dosing calculations and remains widely used in clinical settings: Men = 50 + 2.3 x (height in inches - 60), Women = 45.5 + 2.3 x (height in inches - 60). The Robinson formula (1983) provides slightly different estimates: Men = 52 + 1.9 x (height - 60), Women = 49 + 1.7 x (height - 60). The Miller formula (1983) tends toward higher estimates: Men = 56.2 + 1.41 x (height - 60), Women = 53.1 + 1.36 x (height - 60). The Hamwi formula (1964), the oldest method, uses: Men = 48 + 2.7 x (height - 60), Women = 45.5 + 2.2 x (height - 60). All formulas use height in inches with baseline at 60 inches (5 feet), producing results in kilograms.

Interpreting Your Ideal Weight Range

The calculator displays results from all four formulas, providing minimum, maximum, and average values for comparison. No single formula predicts the right weight for every person. Frame size, muscle mass, age, health history, and goals can all shift what is reasonable. Compare the formula range with BMI calculations and body fat percentage for broader body-composition context.

Setting Realistic Weight Goals

Ideal weight calculations provide targets, but achieving and maintaining healthy weight requires sustainable lifestyle changes rather than crash dieting. If your current weight exceeds the ideal range, aim for gradual loss of 0.5-1 kg weekly through moderate caloric deficit and increased physical activity. Initial goals of 5-10% body weight reduction significantly improve health markers even before reaching ideal weight. If underweight, focus on nutrient-dense caloric surplus combined with resistance training to build lean mass. Consider consulting healthcare providers or registered dietitians for personalized guidance, especially with significant weight changes or underlying health conditions. Track progress using multiple metrics including weight, measurements, energy levels, and overall wellbeing rather than fixating on a single number.

What This Calculator Does Not Measure

Ideal body weight formulas use height and sex only. They do not diagnose underweight, overweight, body fat level, fat distribution, eating disorders, medication needs, athletic build, pregnancy-related changes, or clinical risk. Use the range as a neutral reference point alongside BMI, body fat estimates, waist measures, strength, energy, and personal health history. For clinical concerns or major weight changes, discuss results with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian.
